Woolworth Theater - Photo Friday

Just around the corner from the Ryman, but steeped in Civil Rights history is the recently converted Woolworth store now known as the Woolworth Theater.

Originally an F W Woolworths five-and-dime store. In early 1960 its segregated lunch counter was the scene of a non-violent sit-in by students from Fisk University, including the future US Congressman John Lewis. They were arrested but not after violent backlash from white citizens.

Today, it is an outstanding venue for shows and music performances. It hosted the 100th edition of Buddy’s Place with over 25 songwriters performing original music in celebration of Buddy’s Norris 100th house concert.
